Janet has worked in the creative sector since the mid-eighties, starting her career as an artist in Sheffield with a studio at Yorkshire Artspace. She went on to work at Ikon Gallery in Birmingham, then for Arts Council - developing touring exhibitions, specialising in visual arts, artist-led initiatives, then public art, architecture and design.
Janet has championed creativity throughout her career, promoting the importance of good quality art and design - leading projects that enable creative people to realise excellent high profile work.
Janet decided to become a freelance consultant in 2010, both to widen her horizons and let her own creativity come to the fore. She founded The Refectory Table in late 2011 following research into the secret supper club movement and pop up events, creating a platform for new ways of working with and for creative people.
In addition to her work with The Refectory Table, Janet collaborates with others on projects, manages public art projects, provides one-to-one support for creative people and consultancy for organisations.
The Refectory Table is run by Janet Currie - arts professional, avid gardener, maker and project manager.
Janet works with creative business coaches, artists and makers to deliver inspirational creative business courses, art workshops and events, often from her home in Leicestershire. All of the courses are created with small groups in mind, and feature a great lunch shared around a large table. the concept was developed after research into popup events and underground supper clubs. The name The Refectory Table comes from the large oak table in the kitchen.
Her key partner in the delivery of courses about the business of being creative is business coach & author Pete Mosley, she works with a range of artists to deliver creative events and practical courses.
